Editorial policy

This page exists so a reader can check whether we are doing what we say. It is short on purpose.

Who writes it

Every page on Swat & Snap is written by Ryder M., the hands-on owner behind Magoo Media Group. There is one author. Where a byline says Ryder M., a person wrote and is answerable for that page — there is no "staff" byline and no invented expert panel.

Sourcing standards

Tier 1 — cited by name and linked. University extension services (UF/IFAS, UC IPM, Penn State Extension, Iowa State Extension), the CDC, the EPA, and state health departments.

Tier 2 — acceptable with attribution. Manufacturer specification sheets, for mechanism and coverage claims only, never for efficacy. Publishers who genuinely tested a product, when we are reporting their finding and say whose it is.

Tier 3 — not citable. Other affiliate roundups, content farms, AI-generated listicles, and any statistic that cannot be traced to a primary source.

Concretely:

• Every statistic names its source inline and links to the primary document. Never "studies show".
• A quoted figure must be traceable to the organization that produced it. A widely-circulated bug zapper statistic failed this test during research for this site and is therefore excluded entirely.
• Health and safety claims — rodent-borne disease, rodenticide toxicity, repellent actives — cite the CDC, the EPA or an extension service, never a product page.
• Outbound citation links are not nofollowed. Citing authorities openly is the point.
• Where sources disagree, we say so and link both.

Claims we do not make

• That we have tested a product. We have not, and the methodology page explains what we do instead.
• Any star rating, review count, or price we cannot pull live from the retailer.
• Any credential for the author beyond owner of Magoo Media Group. No licenses, no certifications, no professional affiliations.
• Customer testimonials. There are none on this site because there are none to publish.
• Scare framing. Hantavirus and West Nile are real, get a factual mention with a public-health link where relevant, and are never used as a lever to sell a product.

Corrections

If a page here is wrong, tell us: contact@swatandsnap.com, with the page and what is wrong with it.

• Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed. We do not wait for a content cycle.
• A substantive correction is marked on the page, with the date and what changed. We do not quietly edit and move on.
• Typos and formatting fixes are made silently — marking them would bury the corrections that matter.
• Every page carries a visible published date and updated date, so you can see how current what you are reading is.

Updates and freshness

Product pages are reviewed when a model is discontinued, when a manufacturer changes a specification we quoted, or when new extension guidance changes an answer. The updated date on a page reflects a real change to that page, not a site-wide rebuild.

Affiliate relationships

Swat & Snap earns commission on qualifying purchases made through its links. Full detail is on the affiliate disclosure. Commission plays no part in which products are picked or in the order they appear, and the site publishes negative verdicts on categories it links to.

Independence

No manufacturer has paid for placement here, and no page on this site is sponsored. If that ever changes, the page will say so at the top, in the body copy, before anything else.
